The Digital Farms of British Columbia

Build local capability, not a fly-in industrial island.

The operating model prioritizes local hiring, local procurement and durable supplier relationships in every participating community.

Permanent roles

Jobs span farms and fibre.

The point of co-location is that the campus supports multiple job families rather than a data hall alone.

Technical

Electrical, controls, network, fibre, cooling, facilities, cybersecurity, hardware and site reliability.

Agriculture

Growers, crop technicians, IPM, irrigation, aquaculture, horticultural maintenance and food safety.

Operations

Warehousing, logistics, sanitation, processing, procurement, community relations and administration.

Local procurement target

The project should publish a local-procurement scorecard by site. Packages suitable for local bidding include civil works, concrete, electrical installation, plumbing, greenhouse construction, glazing, landscaping, snow clearing, transport, food distribution, security, cleaning and routine maintenance.

Supplier onboarding

Small local firms should not need enterprise-scale compliance departments to participate. The procurement system should use tiered insurance and documentation requirements proportional to contract risk.

Training

Every operational site should reserve paid trainee positions and partner with B.C. colleges, technical institutes, Indigenous training organizations and secondary-school trades programs where feasible.
